Figure 1Phil is married to Polly and they currently live in Arizona with their six children. Phil is active in sports and pursues diverse cultural interests.
He has been specially set apart as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America since 2000 and has served in two very different pastoral contexts: rural, Illinois (near Peoria) and suburban southern Arizona (Tucson).
From an eclectic religious background, Phil was dedicated as a Nazarene, confirmed as Methodist, and baptized in an independent church after hearing the Gospel at Fellowship of Christian Athletes in college.
Phil discovered faith through a context of suffering and hardship. But, as gold is refined by fire, Phil’s faith was born in part through the kind of difficulties that have taught him to daily experience God’s grace.
Figure 2
Phil believes he has the God-given strengths for this kind of work (see Figure 2) and has had extensive preparation for it (see Figure 3).
Figure 3He believes he is called to draw people into relationship with God, and then lead and equip them to be people on a mission: living out God’s grace in culturally relevant ways.
Also, Phil’s wife, Polly, will be an integral part of this new work. Married to Phil for more than fifteen years, and the mother of six children, she has gifts of organization, planning, building relationships with others, and using her home in creative and hospitable ways.
